Yes, it’s OK to be upset that Cam Ward didn’t play in the second half
Fans have strong feelings. Not all of them should be dismissed.
Let’s get these ground rules out of the way first:
Yes, it is OK to be upset about the current state of college football.
No, it does not automatically make you an anti-player, pro-establishment old man who is yelling at a cloud.
With that settled, let’s get to the subject that dominated a Saturday that featured eight bowl games:
Cam Ward.
More specifically, Ward’s sitting in the second half.
The Heisman finalist started the Pop-Tarts Bowl for Miami against Iowa State. He was his usual excellent self, throwing for 190 yards and three touchdown passes as the Hurricanes went into halftime up 31-28.
Those three touchdowns gave Ward an NCAA Division I record 158 career passing TDs, breaking a tie with Case Keenum (155).
By now you know that Ward didn’t play in the second half. Miami lost a thriller, 42-41, with Emory Williams leading the run-heavy offense (20 rush attempts, 6 pass attempts before the final drive) and with a fully-dressed Ward standing right there in plain view on the sideline.
