Where does Penn State turn now?
Kalani Sitake was the Nittany Lions' guy ... until he wasn't.
When Penn State fired James Franklin back on Oct. 12, the Nittany Lions figured to re-set the coaching market.
They had no idea just how right they would become.
Kalani Sitake was the latest coach to get a raise out of the Penn State opening, agreeing Tuesday to stay at BYU on a long-term deal. To say that Penn State brass was shocked by the development would be an understatement. The school had a verbal commitment from Sitake. AD Patrick Kraft and his leadership team believed this was a done deal after weeks of mutual courtship.
In the end, though, they hadn’t prepared for the public wave of support that Sitake would get from his school, his church and his fellow BYU alums. Perhaps Sitake wasn’t prepared for that, either. Why else meet with Penn State and formulate staff plans?
