What will 2030 look like?
The ACC has stability ... for now. How could that change in five years? Let's look to the recent past.
Let’s fast forward to five years from now, why don’t we?
Then, in the spring of 2030, the Big Ten will be in the final months of its current television megadeal. The Big 12 will be in the penultimate year of its TV deal. The American Conference will be two years out from a new deal itself, as will the College Football Playoff.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, will be in the final year of its NBC deal, which expires after the 2029-30 season.
Now enter the ACC into the picture.
The biggest takeaway from this week’s news that the conference, Clemson and Florida State have resolved all legal disputes against each other is that the league’s exit fees drop to $75 million in 2030-31, with any departing member keeping its own media rights.
That may sound like a lot of money to fork over … until you remember that Texas A&M paid Jimbo Fisher more than that ($76 million) to simply stop coaching its football team.
So it’s really peanuts as far as changing conferences is concerned.
