The Heisman Trophy is Fernando Mendoza's to lose
Indiana isn't a perfect team. But its record still is thanks to its resilient QB.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The truth comes out between the white lines.
The resilience to win, yes. But also the literal words out of your mouth.
And so after Fernando Mendoza led Indiana to a thrilling 27-24 win over Penn State, Aiden Fisher, the heart and soul of this remarkable two-year run of resurgent Hoosiers football, bear-hugged his quarterback on the field and blurted out what everyone must have been thinking in that moment.
“WOO-HOO!” the linebacker screamed as Mendoza came out of his postgame TV interview.
“LET’S GO, HEISMAN!”
There are four weekends left before ballots are due, including three regular-season weekends and just two more games — on the schedule at present moment — for Mendoza and Indiana.
But is there any remaining doubt about who should win the coveted stiff-arm trophy?
