Chip Kelly may not come across as your typical elder statesman among college football coaches, but it is hard to call him anything other than that after seeing the commitment he landed on Sunday at Northwestern.
R.J. Day, a three-star quarterback from Ohio’s St. Francis DeSales High, pledged his allegiance to the Wildcats on Mother’s Day.
Day is the son of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. And while it is always funny to imagine one Big Ten head coach getting the red-carpet treatment from another Big Ten school, the bonds here all tie to Kelly, the 62-year-old first-year offensive coordinator for the Wildcats.
