Notre Dame paid Marcus Freeman more than $6.5 million in 2022, per tax docs
The school released its tax forms Monday, giving us a glimpse of its highest-compensated employees
Notre Dame paid Marcus Freeman more than $6.5 million in his first year as the Irish’s head football coach, federal tax documents show, the first time that any part of Freeman’s head-coaching salary has been made public.
The salary, along with the compensation of Notre Dame’s highest-paid employees, was revealed through the school’s Form 990 for the 2022-23 academic year, which was released Monday. As a private school, Notre Dame’s employment contracts are not public.
The school paid Freeman $6,687,754 for his first academic year as head coach, making him the highest-paid employee of the university for the reporting period, which is from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
The Irish went 9-4 during that 2022 season, before going 10-3 in 2023.
