Notre Dame got snubbed from the Playoff, but this shouldn't dictate much about the program's direction
The Irish were a victim of process on Sunday. It stings. But they still might have it better than every school in the country moving forward.
Notre Dame got snubbed.
The Fighting Irish, last year’s national runner-up, will not get a chance to complete their unfinished business. The College Football Playoff selection committee left Marcus Freeman’s squad out of the 12-team field Sunday, opting for Alabama and Miami instead.
Who’s mad?
Everyone in South Bend and beyond.
What are the lessons from this?
Honestly, there’s just one, and it’s a pretty simple one: Don’t start 0-2.
Yes, that may sound harsh.
Yes, both of those losses came to teams that made the Playoff.
Yes, those two losses came by a combined four points.
And yes, no one this side of Indiana (the school, not the state) has consistently played better football from then until now.
The process by which the Irish left out is maddening to fans. This whole exercise these past six weeks have felt like a tease, with Notre Dame safely in during the first five rankings releases until, suddenly, the Irish were out.
