Kenni Burns' lawsuit against Kent State will move ahead after the school was denied dismissal of nine of the 12 claims brought forth by the ex-coach.
Burns had sued the school, its board of trustees and several other individuals (who have since been dismissed as parties) on March 31 for wrongful termination, breach of contract and defamation, among other claims.
The school had fired Burns on April 11, 2025, which was 15 days after it had put the coach on administrative leave with pay for what athletic director Randale Richmond said at the time was an investigation into Burns for violations of school policies.
