JMU coaching candidates: Who replaces Curt Cignetti?
This is a great job with the right coach, as the FBS transition has been seamless.
Curt Cignetti left for Indiana, meaning an underrated job is open. JMU has had no hiccup whatsoever moving from the FCS to the FBS, going 19-4 in its first two FBS seasons.
Longtime Dukes AD Jeff Bourne is retiring this spring. But before then, he has a coach to hire. JMU is using Collegiate Sports Associates to assist in the search.
Let’s look at some candidates:
Anthony Poindexter, Penn State safeties coach. Poindexter is a College Football Hall of Famer who starred at Virginia and coached there for 11 years. He is a co-DC now with the Nittany Lions, who boast the nation’s No. 1 defense. Poindexter was in the mix for the Virginia job that went to Tony Elliott two years ago, and he would be an ideal fit at JMU.
