1. Jeremiah Smith needing all of two seasons and nine quarters to become Ohio State’s all-time receiving yards leader is nothing short of incredible, especially considering that the place is essentially WRU. Fittingly, Smith said afterward that he’s got two more records to chase. At this point, who would bet against him?
2. Speaking of receiving records: Collin Dixon had five TD catches last season. He has seven through three games with Illinois this season. The school single-season record, for those wondering, is 10.
3. And as long as we’re talking receivers, how about Micah Gilbert? The Notre Dame third-year wideout caught eight passes for 170 yards, the most receiving yards by an Irish player since Chase Claypool notched 180 in a 2017 game against Wake Forest.
4. Northwestern sure looks different offensively this year, didn’t it? Chip Kelly’s unit put up 41 in a rout of Colorado. I won’t put Indiana on upset watch this Friday when the champs host the ‘Cats, but that game has become a lot more interesting.
