From perfect to winless, it’s been a whirlwind two weeks around here, hasn’t it?
Ole Miss +3.5 (-120) vs. LSU (Bet365): This was still available even after Wednesday night’s SEC injury report, which surprisingly listed Tigers QB Sam Leavitt as doubtful. Is this classic gamesmanship by Lane Kiffin? You can’t put anything past him, although 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that Leavitt is dealing with an upper-body issue and did not throw at practice. Landen Clark and Husan Longstreet are the backups, with Clark playing more so far. But if there’s even a chance that LSU is going into this environment — one that will undoubtedly be among the most hostile in recent college football history — with a reserve QB, then getting the Rebels at this number is an incredible value play.
Nate Sheppard 120+ rushing yards (-127) vs. Stanford (DraftKings): You could argue that Sheppard, the Duke running back, has the been the most impressive player in the country through two weeks. He went for 227 rushing yards against Tulane in the opener and followed it up with 147 in an upset win at Illinois. Ride the hot hand against a Stanford team that looked overmatched its last time out vs. Miami.
CJ Carr under 249.5 pass yards (-114) vs. Michigan State (FanDuel): Carr has gone under this total in nine of his 14 career starts. He went over it this past Saturday against Rice, throwing for 253 yards in just more than two quarters, but that felt more intentional on Notre Dame’s part as the Irish looked to get more receivers involved and develop a downfield attack. Also, it was against Rice. MSU, despite being a 30-point dog, is not Rice. More importantly, there is a chance for thunderstorms Saturday night in South Bend, which could lead to a run-heavy attack.
