All is well at Notre Dame
Just get through this next week.
If you see a Notre Dame fan in the next few days, give him or her a hug.
Then stay out of the way, lest you get mowed down by a program looking more and more like it’ll be a buzzsaw in 2026.
It’s Miami vs. Indiana in the national title game, yes. Irish fans find themselves this week in a similar situation to Michigan fans last year, when the Wolverines faithful had to watch two of their biggest enemies — Ohio State and Notre Dame — play for it all.
For the Irish following, it’s pick your poison: Watch an in-state team that has long been a laughingstock win a title, or watch the “Convicts” — a.k.a. “Team A” — take home the top prize after jumping you in the final Playoff rankings.
For the love of Touchdown Jesus, may no Miami player pull a Kanye West/Corey Seager should the Hurricanes win on Monday.
Get through that night, though, and suddenly things open up for these Irish, much like this past week has for them in the transfer portal.
It wasn’t a great start to the portal period for Notre Dame. It’s been a great finish, though.
Retention has been high. Two five-star receivers from Ohio State have come aboard in Quincy Porter and Mylan Graham. The interior of the defensive line (Francis Brewu, Tionne Gray) has been fortified. All four of those players — and seven of the eight additions overall — have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
And, by the way, the program is six weeks removed from signing the best high school recruiting class in recorded school history.
Throw in early Heisman favorite CJ Carr at quarterback, and there’s a lot to look forward to for Notre Dame.
